We Empower You to Find Fulfillment in Your Life

Welcome to the website of Anne R. Walker, a licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and family therapist in Austin, Texas. I am glad that you have taken the time to visit my site and learn more about the services that I offer. As a psychotherapist, I am dedicated to providing a safe, comfortable, and supportive space where you can address your deepest concerns and work towards a more satisfying life.

My Background and Approach

I am fortunate to have had three fulfilling careers, each of which has prepared me for the work that I do today. After earning a degree in psychology from Tulane University, I went on to earn a Master's degree in education from the University of Texas. I spent several years teaching special-needs children in Austin and San Antonio before deciding to work from home so that I could spend more time with my two children. I became an educational writer and enjoyed this career for many years, but I was ready for a change at midlife. I had always been interested in psychotherapy, so I went back to school and earned a second Master's degree in counseling from St. Edward's University. Today, I work with individuals, couples, and families in my private practice at Austin Counseling and Psychotherapy Center.

My approach to therapy is based on my strong belief in the basic human drive towards health and healing and the interrelationship of mind, body, and spirit. I believe that each part of a person affects the others, so I work with my clients to bring these parts into alignment. This holistic approach helps my clients feel healthier, more vibrant, more satisfied with their lives, and more connected with others.

Services Offered

I work with a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma, ADHD, grief and loss, life transitions, and family of origin issues. I can assist you if you feel stuck, stressed, or if you want to use therapy for self-exploration and personal growth. Typical goals that my clients work toward include improved relationships, more effective coping skills, increased self-awareness, and the ability to find more satisfaction and pleasure in day-to-day activities.

Therapeutic Approaches

The relationship between therapist and client is the most significant predictor of therapeutic outcome, so I work collaboratively and closely with my clients to address their concerns. I also believe that people's earliest relationships strongly influence their adult lives, so I may look at your developmental and family history to help you recognize how features of current relationships sometimes mirror aspects of those in your past. The specific methods of treatment that I use will depend on your needs and goals.

Getting Started

If you're ready to take the important step of beginning therapy, I offer new clients a no-charge 30-minute consultation. This is a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and to discuss how I might be able to help you. I encourage you to call or email me to set up an appointment. I look forward to working with you.
