Casc Stark Mental Health

StarkMHAR, also known as Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery, is the county "Board" responsible for planning, evaluating, and funding mental health and addiction services in Stark County, Ohio. Our mission is to lead the county's mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery system to ensure access, quality, and hope.

We believe in wellness and recovery, collaboration and partnerships, equity and inclusion, innovation and creativity, integrity, perseverance, and people-centered care. Our core values guide us in our work to support wellness and recovery in Stark County through innovation in funding, collaboration, education, and advocacy.

StarkMHAR is empowered by the State of Ohio to plan, develop, fund, manage, and evaluate community-based mental health and addiction services. Federal, state, and local funds are utilized to ensure mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery support services are available to individuals and families in Stark County.

Our Services

StarkMHAR contracts with a wide range of providers for prevention, treatment, and recovery support services for Stark County residents. Our services include:

1. Suicide Prevention: We aim to reduce the number of suicides in Stark County through education, awareness, and resources.

2. Opiate Overdose Prevention: We provide resources and education on opiate overdose prevention, including the distribution of NaloxBoxes throughout the community.

3. Provider Hub: We maintain a provider hub to help Stark County residents find the mental health and addiction services they need.

4. Get Help Crisis Numbers: We provide crisis numbers for individuals in need of immediate assistance.

5. See Our Impact Initiatives: We regularly look for areas that need special attention and make plans to address those. Our current initiatives include homelessness navigation and reducing stigma surrounding mental health and addiction.

6. Find a Provider: We help Stark County residents find the mental health and addiction providers that best meet their needs.

7. Topics: We provide education and resources on various mental health and addiction topics, including addiction help, children and youth, legalization of marijuana in Ohio, men's mental health, stress management, trauma-informed care, and workplace resources.

8. Get Involved: We offer various ways for Stark County residents to get involved in mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery.

Our Impact

In our 2021-2023 Strategic Plan, we set goals to increase appointment show rates, media outlets used for harm reduction education, staff trained in Lean Six Sigma, and NaloxBoxes placed in the community. We are proud to report that we exceeded all of these goals.

In addition, we continuously strive to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and addiction by providing education and resources on various topics. We believe that a better understanding of these subjects can help overcome the stigma that often surrounds them.

StarkMHAR also offers trainings and events, education and advocacy, award nominations, and opportunities to request materials for media, trainings, and events.
