Our Story and Mission
The Center for Health, Happiness, and Chan (CHHC) was founded in 2017 by three faculty members at the University of Akron, who were inspired by a Chan (Zen) Master. Our organization is a non-profit, non-religious organization dedicated to promoting a contemplative and mindful lifestyle that cultivates health, happiness, and inner peace. We believe that a mindful approach to life can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment, which is often lacking in our fast-paced and demanding world.
Our Approach to Health and Happiness
At CHHC, we recognize that health and happiness are intertwined and cannot be separated. We believe that health is not just the absence of disease, but a state of overall well-being that includes physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions. Our approach to health and happiness is rooted in the Chan (Zen) tradition, which emphasizes mindfulness, compassion, and inner transformation. We offer a range of services and programs designed to cultivate mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical well-being.
Meditation Classes
One of our core services is meditation classes, which are offered at local libraries throughout the Akron area. Our meditation classes are open to anyone who is interested in exploring contemplative techniques, including breathing meditation, mindfulness meditation, and more. Our experienced meditation instructors provide a supportive and welcoming environment for individuals of all ages and backgrounds.
