The Story Behind Covered Bridges Winery

Covered Bridges Winery is a labor of love, born from the shared vision of long-time friends and neighbors, Kevin and Jean Fifo, and Kevin and Rose Boyle. Their journey began with a mutual appreciation for wine, which led them to experiment with making their own wine using locally grown grapes. As their shared interest and knowledge deepened, so did their dream of creating a winery that would celebrate the unique qualities of Iowa's terroir.

The couples spent several years attending wine-making classes, researching, and gathering information from other winemakers and the Iowa Winegrowers' Association. As Kevin Fifo's enthusiasm for home wine-making grew, Jean began searching for the perfect location to establish their winery. In 2004, she found a beautiful piece of land with a barn and silo, which they transformed into the Covered Bridges Winery you see today.

Planting their first vineyards in the spring of 2004, the couples approached the process with care and caution. With the help of experienced advisors, they learned the best practices for planting and nurturing their grapes. Their initial, measured approach allowed them to adapt and learn as they grew, ultimately resulting in a thriving winery that contributes to the rich tapestry of Iowa's wine industry.
