Our Story
Sunrise Breakfast has been a beloved institution in Savannah since 1987, serving up classic Southern breakfasts and friendly hospitality. Our journey began with Paul and Agnes Yao, who opened the first Sunrise Restaurant on the Southside of Savannah. Their vision was simple: offer delicious, wholesome breakfasts made with care and served with a smile. Paul worked the grill, whipping up fluffy omelets and golden hash browns, while Agnes welcomed guests with warmth and charm. Their three daughters - Melissa, Christina, and Serena - would often join their parents early in the morning, contributing to the bustling atmosphere of the family-run restaurant.
Word quickly spread about Sunrise's commitment to quality and deliciousness. The Savannah Morning News even featured Sunrise in a review stating, "the omelets are the specialty of the house." This recognition fueled their success and motivated them to expand their reach. In 1990, Sunrise opened a second location on Tybee Island, five times the size of the original, continuing to provide the same exceptional food and service to their growing clientele.
The demand for Sunrise Breakfast's hearty breakfasts continued to rise, leading to further expansion. In 2002, Sunrise Wilmington Island opened its doors, inviting locals and visitors to enjoy their beloved menu in a new location. In 2005, Sunrise Chatham Parkway joined the family, offering a slightly expanded menu that included lunch options on weekdays. This location boasted daily lunch specials featuring Southern comfort food staples - meat and three sides - as well as a hearty soup and salad bar.

Our menu is a celebration of Southern comfort food, featuring dishes like our Sunrise Signature Hash Brown Deluxe; a medley of golden hash browns, broccoli, mushrooms, onions, and tomatoes, topped with your choice of bacon, sausage, ham, or eggs. For those seeking a sweet start, our Raisin Cinnamon French Toast, three pieces of raisin bread lightly breaded and grilled to perfection, is a delightful treat.
Another Savannah favorite, Shrimp & Grits, showcases the region's flavors with succulent shrimp sauteed with garlic-herb seasoning, crumbled bacon, onions, and bell peppers, served over creamy grits. We offer a variety of breakfast sandwiches, omelets, and skillets, each customizable with your preferred fillings.
