At Northeast Aikido, we are dedicated to promoting and teaching the traditional martial art of Aikido. As a dojo that has been in operation for over four decades, we take pride in our commitment to fostering a culture of respect, discipline, and self-awareness among our students.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals of all ages and skill levels can come together to learn, grow, and improve their overall well-being. We believe that Aikido is a comprehensive martial art that not only improves one's physical strength and agility but also cultivates mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual connection.
Our Philosophy
At Northeast Aikido, we subscribe to the philosophy of Aikido founded by Professor Morihei Ueshiba. We believe that Aikido is not just a means of defending oneself physically, but also a path to personal growth, self-awareness, and spiritual development. Our goal is to empower our students with the skills and mindset necessary to navigate life's challenges with confidence, compassion, and wisdom.
Our Classes
Our classes are led by highly experienced instructors who have been training in Aikido for over 20 years. Our classes are designed to be both challenging and accessible, catering to students of all levels and abilities. We emphasize the importance of proper technique, focus, and respect, and we encourage our students to progress at their own pace.
Our Dojo
Our dojo, located in Salem, New Hampshire, is fully equipped with state-of-the-art training facilities and equipment. We have a spacious main room, a dedicated instructor's room, and clean, well-maintained bathrooms. Parking is available on site, and our facility is easily accessible for those with mobility issues.
Our History
Our dojo was founded by Perriello Sensei, one of the first four students of Kanai Shihon in the United States. Perriello Sensei began practicing Aikido and Judo prior to Kanai's arrival in the US in the early 1960s. He then practiced under Kanai Shihon and eventually started his own dojo in the early 1980s. In the early 2000s, Perriello Sensei opened Methuen Aikido, which later became Northeast Aikido/Ki Rei Shinkan. When Perriello Sensei retired, he passed the dojo onto Sensei Dore and Wood, two highly experienced instructors who have continued to lead our dojo with dedication and passion.
Our Commitment
At Northeast Aikido, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for all our students. We strive to create a sense of community and camaraderie among our students, and we encourage open communication, respect, and teamwork. We believe that Aikido is not just a physical exercise but a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
