Embrace your potential. Make a difference.
Cathedral High School is a Catholic, urban, and coeducational college preparatory school committed to excellence and social justice. Established in 1926, our mission is to deliver a rigorous and holistic education that is available for all families, regardless of ability to pay. Our core values of compassion, respect, and service are deeply rooted in the Gospel, and we strive to foster a culture of inclusion, opportunity, acceptance, and empowerment.
Overview of Cathedral High School
Located in the vibrant and historic South End of Boston, Cathedral High School is the city's only coeducational Catholic school serving grades 7 to 12. Our dedicated faculty, small class sizes, and applied, hands-on learning through a STEAM-based curriculum have resulted in a consistent 100% graduation and college admission rate for nearly two decades. We are proud to offer an affordable, private, independent Catholic education, made possible by the generosity of our donors, who contribute a significant portion of every student's tuition. As a result, no family pays more than $7,000 per year for a Cathedral education.
Our Mission
Cathedral High School is dedicated to providing a rigorous and holistic education that prepares students to make lasting and powerful impacts in their local, national, and global communities. We are committed to delivering excellence and fostering social justice within an environment that encourages our scholars to reach their full potential.
Our mission is rooted in Gospel values and embraces the rich diversity of our community. By fostering a culture of inclusion, opportunity, acceptance, and empowerment, we strive to create an environment where every student can thrive.
Applied Learning & Rigorous Curriculum
At Cathedral, our students are engaged in a rigorous academic program that challenges them to excel. Our college preparatory program includes Advanced Placement (AP) courses, early college classes, and a wide array of electives. Students participate in career exploration classes, such as the MedScience partnership with Tufts University School of Medicine, business and finance classes in partnership with Fidelity Investments, marketing, and law classes.
STEAM-based, hands-on learning is central to our program of study. STEAM is an acronym for learning that incorporates science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. By incorporating applied learning principles through creation, design, and innovation, we help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
Every summer, all new students entering grades 7 through 9 participate in a summer program of STEAM-based applied learning. Juniors and seniors receive dedicated college preparatory classes to prepare them for the SAT, college applications, and more. Through a 20-year partnership with the law firm WilmerHale, seniors attend multiple workshops with WilmerHale employees to compose their college application essays.
