Strengthening the Mind, Body, & Spirit of Acadiana

Welcome to Little Creek Yoga, Lafayette's donation-based movement and meditation community. Our home is the historic Camelia House, where we offer a variety of Yoga classes, Meditation, Pilates, and Qi Gong. We are dedicated to providing a space where everyone can access the tools they need to reach their greatest potential in their practice, both individually and as a group experience. We strive to create a community of people sharing in their journey towards health and happiness.

Our Services

Little Creek Yoga is a donation-based center, where participants are encouraged to contribute what they can, or feel that they should, in exchange for the teachers' time and expertise and the space provided for practice. We believe that yoga should be accessible for anyone who wants to practice, and we welcome contributions in the form of helping in the maintenance and running of the studio.

Our class offerings include:

  • Yoga classes for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners
  • Meditation classes to help quiet the mind and find inner peace
  • Pilates classes to strengthen the core and improve posture
  • Qi Gong classes to improve balance and overall health

Our classes are designed to transform the body and mind, with the goal of liberation. Participants can expect a combined focus on mindfulness, breathing, and physical movements, bringing health benefits with regular participation. Yoga participants report better sleep, increased energy levels and muscle tone, relief from muscle pain and stiffness, improved circulation and overall better general health. The breathing aspect of yoga can benefit heart rate and blood pressure.

The History of Yoga

The origins of Yoga are unclear, with evidence of pre-Vedic Indian origins and images of figures in Yoga poses and meditation found at the sites of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. Many satellite traditions have developed since its beginnings, with Gurus from India bringing Yoga to the west in the 20th century. In the 1980's, it was popularized in the form of Hatha Yoga.

The term "yoga" comes from Sanskrit meaning "yoking together", as of a span of oxen, but came to be applied to the yoking of mind and body. Yoga is the physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines that aim to transform body and mind with the goal of liberation (moksha).
