The Cass Winery Story
At Cass Winery, we're proud to have a rich history that dates back to 1999, when our founder Steve Cass retired from his career at Charles Schwab to pursue his passion for winemaking. With a dream of starting a vineyard and winery in Paso Robles, Steve traveled the world, eventually settling on the 145-acre Cass Vineyard. In 2000, the vineyard was established, with twelve varieties planted. The following year, the Cass family built a barn to house the farming equipment, marking the beginning of our winemaking journey.
Our Winemaking Philosophy
Our winemaker, Sterling Kragten, grew up with a passion for cooking and eventually discovered his love for winemaking while studying Food Science at Cal Poly. With a minor in Wine and Viticulture, Sterling honed his skills as an intern at Eagle Castle Winery before becoming our winemaker. We're committed to creating wines that showcase the unique characteristics of Paso Robles, while blending traditional techniques with modern innovations.
