Igniting Curiosity and Creativity in Every Child
Founded in 1973, the Deer Isle Artists Association (DIAA) is a vibrant non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the visual arts through exhibitions and educational outreach in the Mid-Coast Maine region. With a rich history and a dedicated group of members, DIAA plays a vital role in enriching the cultural landscape of the area.
Our Mission
Our primary purpose is to:
- Showcase the work of local artists through curated exhibitions.
- Foster artistic exploration and growth through educational programs and workshops.
- Cultivate dialogue and engagement around the arts through community outreach initiatives.
What We Do
DIAA hosts a variety of activities throughout the year, including:
- Monthly Exhibitions: Featuring the works of talented artists from the region, offering diverse perspectives and mediums.
- Artist-in-Residence Program: Providing a winter studio space where member artists can work on personal projects and engage with the community.
- "ART matters" Series: Engaging discussions and presentations on various art-related topics, fostering dialogue and connecting the community with local artists.
- Education Outreach: Partnering with schools and organizations to promote visual arts education and inspire young artists.
Our Community
DIAA boasts a diverse group of approximately 100 talented artists, covering mediums such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, jewelry, photography, and fiber art. Many of our members call Maine their home, while others have connections to the area through their art or heritage. We warmly welcome newcomers and seasoned artists alike.
