Our Mission
Our mission is to celebrate and perpetuate each individual's quest for knowledge and skill, sense of wonder, and connection to the natural environment. We strive to empower each student to become a compassionate, responsible, and active global citizen.
Our Beliefs
At High Meadows School, we believe that children are natural learners who are driven by their innate curiosity and desire to make sense of the world around them. We also believe that learning should be an exciting, engaging, and joyful experience that takes place both inside and outside of the classroom.
Our Programs
We offer a range of programs that are designed to meet the needs and interests of each student. Our Early Years program (K-3rd grade) provides a strong foundation in literacy, numeracy, and social skills. Our Elementary Years program (4-5) builds on this foundation by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Our Middle Years program (6-8) prepares students for high school and beyond by developing their academic, social, and emotional skills.
In addition to our core academic programs, we offer a variety of enrichment opportunities, including art, music, drama, physical education, technology, and world languages. We also offer a range of extracurricular activities, such as sports teams, clubs, and community service projects.
Our Campus
Our 42-acre campus is a unique and inspiring learning environment that provides ample opportunities for exploration, discovery, and connection with nature. Our facilities include bright and spacious classrooms, a state-of-the-art science lab, a well-equipped art studio, a performance theater, a gymnasium, and a library media center. Our outdoor spaces include woods, meadows, gardens, a pond, and a stream, which serve as an extension of our classrooms and provide endless opportunities for hands-on learning and play.
Our Community
We are proud of our diverse and inclusive community, which is comprised of students, families, faculty, and staff from many different backgrounds and cultures. We value and respect each person's unique perspective and contribution, and we strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
Our History
High Meadows School was founded in 1973 by a group of parents who were committed to providing a alternative to traditional education. They believed that children learn best when they are active, engaged, and excited about what they are learning, and they designed a program that reflected these values. Over the past 50 years, we have continued to build upon this foundation, staying true to our roots while also evolving and adapting to meet the changing needs of our students and society.
Our People
Our faculty and staff are a talented and dedicated group of professionals who are passionate about teaching and learning. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their work, and they are committed to creating a positive and supportive learning environment for all students.
Our Approach
At High Meadows School, we believe that education is about more than just academic achievement. We believe that it is about helping each student to develop their whole self - intellectually, emotionally, socially, and ethically. We achieve this by providing a balanced and challenging curriculum that is grounded in the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework and informed by best practices in education.
We also believe that learning should be an active, student-centered process that is rooted in inquiry, exploration, and real-world application. We use a variety of teaching strategies and learning experiences, including project-based learning, design thinking, service learning, and experiential education, to engage students in meaningful and relevant learning.
Our Results
Our approach is successful in preparing students for high school and beyond. Our graduates are confident, competent, and compassionate young people who are ready to take on the challenges of the 21st century. They are critical thinkers, problem solvers, and effective communicators who are committed to making a positive difference in the world.
