Generations in the making, Carl Bales Excavating has been a family business rooted in the community of Alburtis, Pennsylvania. Our story began with Gus Bales, who moved to Alburtis from Virginia after serving in the Navy and married Anna Leh. Gus started an excavating company that grew over time, becoming the only company in the area capable of taking on larger jobs.

In 1985, Gus's son, Carl "Senior, " branched out on his own with only a Ford 2wd backhoe. Carl's wife, Rita, managed all office work and continued to work her full-time position at the Caloric factory. Carl worked long hours, earning a reputation for his skill, reliability, and honesty. He focused on smaller projects, earning the respect of the local community.

With the help of his son, Carl "Junior, " the company began to expand. Today, Carl Bales Excavating is a multimillion-dollar company that remains true to its beginnings. Family is key - whether by blood or by heart. Carl's sons, daughter, and grandson are all part of the business, making it a truly family-run operation.
