Our History

The Coal City Fire Protection District was established in 1966, in response to the need for a dedicated fire department to serve the growing community. The first fire station was located on South Washington Street in Coal City and was staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers. Over the years, the District has grown and evolved, adding new stations, equipment, and personnel to meet the changing needs of the community. Today, the District protects 55 square miles and serves a population of approximately 10,500 residents.

Our Tradition and Membership

One of the District's most enduring traditions is the use of "Omaha Orange" as the color for all of its equipment. The District's fire trucks and equipment are painted in this distinctive color, making them highly visible in the community and ensuring a rapid response in emergency situations. The District's membership includes both full-time and paid-on-call firefighters, as well as EMTs and paramedics, who are all dedicated to serving the community.

Our Affiliations

The Coal City Fire Protection District is a member of MABAS Division 15 and the Chief Shabbona Firefighter's Training Association, as well as a participating member of MABAS 15 HazMat, Dive Teams, and the Technical Rescue Team. These affiliations provide the District with access to additional resources and expertise, ensuring that we are able to provide the highest level of service to the community.
