The Mental Health Association Atlantic County (MHAAC) is a community-based organization dedicated to fostering a healthier community where mental illness is understood, de stigmatized, and effectively managed. We empower individuals and families by providing support, resources, and education while advocating for access to quality mental health services.
Our Mission
Our mission is to support individuals and families affected by mental illness through:
- Providing peer-to-peer support: We offer various support groups and programs facilitated by trained peer support specialists who have lived experience with mental illness themselves.
- Connecting to concrete services: Our Wellness Navigators work collaboratively with consumers to identify and access the resources they need to achieve their recovery goals.
- Empowering individuals: We offer educational programs, workshops, and training sessions to help people understand mental illness and manage their symptoms.
- Advocating for change: We collaborate with local organizations and policymakers to improve access to quality mental health care, reduce stigma, and ensure that people with mental illness have a voice in their recovery and treatment.
1. Wellness & Recovery Programs
- Our Wellness Navigators partner with consumers to work towards addressing the needs of an increasing number of consumers who lack the resources, knowledge, or skills needed to take the next steps on their road to recovery.
2. Intensive Family Support Services (IFSS)
- This program strives to improve caregivers' overall functioning by offering individualized information, education, and therapeutic support.
3. Acute Care On-Call
- Available 7 days a week from 8am-8pm for families of adults who are living with mental health challenges and who are in crisis.
4. Community Advocacy
- We partner with community members, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advocate for systemic changes that improve access to quality mental healthcare and reduce stigma.
5. Support Groups
- We host various support groups for individuals and families affected by mental illness.
6. Peer Support
- We believe in the power of peer support and utilize trained peer support specialists to offer encouragement, guidance, and validation to those navigating mental health challenges.
