The Musicians' Association Local 689, an affiliate of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada, is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to advocating for musicians to help ensure the future of live music. Our organization was granted its charter in 1914, making us one of the oldest organizations in Eugene.

Our Mission

Our mission is to unite and organize professional musicians to secure improved wages, hours, working conditions, and other economic advantages for our members through collective bargaining. We also aim to establish terms and conditions for equitable and fair dealing among our members.

Our Jurisdiction

Local 689 has jurisdiction over most of southern Oregon, southern Idaho, and small areas of California and Wyoming. The exact description of our jurisdiction may be found in Section Two of our local bylaws.

Board of Directors

Our Board of Directors consists of dedicated individuals who are volunteers and are elected to one or two-year terms. They include President Stephen Chong, Vice-President Ben Greanya, Secretary-Treasurer Kris Klavik, Trustee Bill Belcher, and Directors at Large Violetta Tarpinian and one vacant position. The Board of Directors meets once a month, and members are welcome to attend any Board meeting. We also hold special General Membership meetings four times a year where all members are invited to share their concerns with the Board.

Services Offered

We offer a variety of services to our members and the community. These include booking musicians for events, providing resources for musicians such as hiring information, and promoting live music in the community. We also advocate for musicians' rights and work to improve working conditions and compensation for our members.

Membership Benefits

Membership in Local 689 offers numerous benefits for musicians. These include access to our booking service, which helps connect musicians with potential clients, and access to our resources for musicians. Additionally, members are part of a larger community of musicians who are working together to advocate for their rights and improve their working conditions.
