Outer Banks Surf School is a premier surf instruction school located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. With over 30 years of combined surfing experience, our instructors are dedicated to providing a safe, positive, and fun surfing experience to students of all ages and skill levels.
Our Mission
Outer Banks Surf School was founded in 2008 by Chris Hunter, a local surfer from Kill Devil Hills. Chris has spent his entire life surfing on the Outer Banks and around the world. After graduating from UNC Wilmington, he decided to return home and share his passion for surfing with locals and visitors alike. All of our instructors are CPR and First Aid certified, ensuring that you are safe and confident while learning to surf.

Surf Lessons
Our surf lessons are designed for individuals and small groups. We offer private lessons, group lessons, and kids camps. Our instructors are experienced and certified, with a passion for sharing their love of surfing with others. Whether you're looking to learn the basics or improve your skills, our surf lessons will get you riding the waves in no time.
Surf Camps
Our kids surf camps are designed for kids aged 7-12. Our expert instructors will teach your kids the basics of surfing in a fun and safe environment. Our camps are designed to promote teamwork, self-confidence, and a sense of accomplishment. Our camps are run from Nags Head, and we cater to a maximum of 10 kids per session to ensure personalized attention and safety.
Stand-up Paddleboard Lessons
Our stand-up paddleboard lessons are designed for individuals and small groups. Our instructors will teach you the basic techniques of stand-up paddleboarding on land before we enter the water. Once on the water, a surf coach will be right by your side, providing feedback and guidance to help you improve your skills.
