Ballet Classes
We offer comprehensive ballet instruction for ages 2+ with progressive levels from introductory classes to advanced training. Our curriculum develops technical proficiency, artistic expression, and performance skills through structured lessons in posture, coordination, and classical technique. Students benefit from experienced instructors and performance opportunities in annual productions.
The Nutcracker
Our annual Nutcracker production features local dancers, handmade costumes, and professional sets. This December tradition since 1966 showcases Clara's magical journey with enchanting scenes like the Land of Sweets and Mouse King battle. The production provides valuable stage experience for our dancers while delighting community audiences of all ages.
Pre-Professional Program
Designed for serious dancers, this program offers mentorship, leadership roles, and genre exploration. Participants receive intensive ballet and pointe training while preparing for collegiate programs or professional careers. The curriculum includes additional performance opportunities and specialized instruction in choreography, variations, and ensemble work to develop versatile, expressive artists.
Community Performances
We actively engage the community through performances at festivals like DelGrosso Dance Days and Ethnic Fest. These events showcase our dancers' talents while celebrating cultural traditions through both classical excerpts and original choreography. Parent & Child Classes

Eden Mishler Ihrig
Executive Artistic Director
A graduate of Mercyhurst University's prestigious dance program, Eden brings 13 years of teaching experience and professional performance background to JCB. She previously served as Department Chair at Villa Maria Academy and Cathedral Preparatory School, choreographing numerous theatrical productions. Her vision combines classical training with innovative programming.
Carla Prucnal
Founder
A Carnegie Mellon graduate and Cecchetti-certified instructor, Carla founded JCB in 1966. She developed the organization's classical foundation and community focus, creating enduring traditions like The Nutcracker production. Her legacy continues through the organization's commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement.
Questions
At what age should my child start ballet?
We recommend starting as young as age 2 in our Parent & Child classes, with formal training beginning at age 3 in Pre-Ballet 1.
How can my child participate in The Nutcracker?
All enrolled students from Pre-Ballet 1 and up perform in annual productions, with lead auditions held in early September.
Do I need prior experience to enroll?
No prior experience is required. Our faculty places students based on age and ability to ensure proper skill development.
What should my child wear to class?
We have a dress code including leotards, tights, and ballet slippers. Trial participants receive specific details after registration.
Where are classes held?
All classes occur at our studio located at 300 Power Street, Johnstown, PA 15906.
When does the dance season start and end?
Fall classes begin in September and run through December, resuming in January through May with evaluations for level progression.
