Service and Customer Support
Several reviewers had extremely negative experiences with the customer support at Heartland Credit Union. Author Ron Slapinski stated that his wife spent hours on the phone trying to fix a compromised account, but was met with runaround and incompetent staff. Authors Andrew Thao, Daniel Merwin, and Grace K. also reported poor customer service, including rude representatives and unhelpful responses. They felt that the credit union was more interested in making a profit than in serving its customers.
Branch and Employee Experience
On the other hand, some reviewers had positive experiences with individual employees. Author Brady Tonnancour praised a young employee named Jacob for being friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Author Lauren Mijal also appreciated the helpfulness of the representative she spoke with through the live video chat feature.
Fees and Account Management
Several reviewers were unhappy with the fees charged by Heartland Credit Union. Author Andrew Thao was charged fees for overdraft protection and had to pay late fees on his bills when he was unable to access his account. Author Daniel Merwin was also charged a fee for overdraft protection, despite feeling that it was a free service when he signed up. Author Scott Katzenmeyer reported that the credit union stole $15,000 from him and made it difficult for him to access his money.
Account Closure and Issues
Both authors Andrew Thao and Scott Katzenmeyer had problems with closing their accounts. They reported being told that their accounts were closed, but later receiving letters stating that they were still open and had negative balances.
