Academic Needs

At The Tutoring Link, we will do more than answer your child's problems in basic homework and project work. We will assess their strengths and weaknesses, prepare an individualized learning program based on their academic needs, and use "hands-on" materials whenever possible.

Diagnostic Evaluation

Our programs begin with a diagnostic evaluation (Woodcock Johnson IV Test of Achievement) that assesses the student's strengths and weaknesses in reading, writing, and math. Post tests will show the gains your child has made in each targeted subject area.

Personalized Program

Upon reviewing the test results, we will generate a personalized learning program based on your child's academic needs. Our programs are UNIQUE and tailored to meet the specific needs of each student.

About the Director

Laurel Davis, Director of The Tutoring Link, is a special education teacher with over 20 years of experience. She has taught in and out of the classroom and has worked as an advocate for students. Her experience has also made her adept at motivating and inspiring our future generations to excel not only academically but also socially. She is certified in the Orton-Gillingham method of language instruction by the Association of Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and is an International Dyslexia Association certified Structured Literacy Interventionist. She holds a B.A. in Educational Psychology and is pursuing a Masters in Teaching. Additionally, she is a Registered Yoga Teacher and a Twist Kids Yoga instructor. She has also studied Brain Gym and Handwriting Without Tears methods.

As an educator and parent, she believes each child is a unique individual with their own strengths and talents. Laurel's creative and compassionate teaching helps students develop confidence and reach their goals by encouraging and celebrating each step along the way to success.

Orton Gillingham Lessons

Laurel is certified in the Orton-Gillingham method of language instruction, which is a multisensory approach that helps students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. This approach helps students develop phonemic awareness, decode words, and comprehend written text.
