Happy Battle Surf Co. is more than just a surf shop. It's a community built on the shared passion for the ocean and the spirit of surfing. Our founder, Mark Polintan, has a unique story that reflects the true essence of our brand.

Growing up on his grandparents' pineapple farm in Tarlac City, Philippines, Mark was instilled with the philosophy that 'life is a battle, and to remain happy'. This guiding principle has helped him navigate through life's challenges and achieve his goals. The pineapple logo we use today symbolizes the hard work and dedication we put into everything we do.

Mark's love for surfing was sparked during his visits to Ilocos Norte, a popular surfing destination in the Philippines. He and his cousins would make their own surfboards out of wood scraps since buying a real one wasn't an option. Occasionally, surfers from abroad would leave their boards behind, allowing locals like Mark to experience the thrill of surfing.

After moving to New York City and earning his degree in accounting, Mark found himself in a routine that lacked the excitement of the ocean. So, he decided to relocate to San Diego in 2012, where he could combine his passion for surfing with his accounting expertise. He started working as a bookkeeper for local surfboard shapers and soon realized that many of their beautifully crafted boards were not selling.

Seeing an opportunity, Mark began selling these surfboards online and out of his van. As demand grew, he moved into a small studio apartment with a garage, and eventually, he found a larger warehouse. Today, Happy Battle Surf Co. proudly specializes in surfboards handcrafted exclusively by local shapers, expanding their reach not just locally but also internationally, particularly in Japan.

We're not just about selling surfboards; we're about creating a community that shares our love for the ocean and the joy of surfing.
