Haggerty Metals, a family-owned and operated scrap metal recycling facility, has been proudly serving Southeast Michigan and Northern Ohio since its establishment in 1985. The company was founded by two young men, Hugh Goldsmith and Doug Billingsley, who were given the opportunity to open a scrap metal yard by their mentor and Hugh's father, Harold Goldsmith. With a burning determination to serve the metal recycling needs of the people in Plymouth Michigan and surrounding communities, the two entrepreneurs overcame obstacles and built their business for the next 26 years, constantly upgrading equipment and expanding their customer base.

The roots of Haggerty Metals can be traced back to the early 1900s when two men, Moishe "little goldie" Goldsmith and Herman Aberly, prospered in the scrap metal trade, providing for their families with hard work and dedication. The two men's families were later connected through the marriage of their children, Norma Aberly and Harold Goldsmith. Norma and Harold had three children, and their youngest son, Hugh, followed in his father's footsteps and went to work for him in the scrap metal business.

Years later, Hugh met Doug Billingsley while working for his father, and the two formed a strong friendship. In 1985, they were presented with an opportunity by Harold Goldsmith to open a scrap metal yard on Haggerty road in Plymouth Michigan. Despite facing challenges, including a warehouse fire in the first year of operation, the two entrepreneurs persevered and built a thriving business.
