Sense & Color School Of Music

Sense & Color School of Music, a locally-owned music studio in Leander, Texas, is dedicated to providing private music lessons, a fun rock band program, and performance opportunities for kids and adults of all ages. Our history began in 2008, when we started with a small group of students in a spare bedroom in Cedar Park, offering lessons in guitar, bass, and voice. Over the years, we've expanded our offerings to include violin, piano, drums, and more.

Our story began with Amy Boyd, the school's owner, who moved to Austin in 1991 to attend the University of Texas at Austin with a focus on vocal performance. After college, she left music for a few years, working as an online community director for Electronic Arts. However, she eventually returned to her passion for music, bringing with her a wealth of marketing and business experience that helped shape the school into what it is today.

In 2008, we started teaching lessons in a spare bedroom in Cedar Park, where cats would often make themselves comfortable in guitar cases while parents waited in the living room. The school was initially called "Guitar Austin, " which we later realized wasn't the most fitting name, as we offered more than just guitar lessons and weren't actually located in Austin. We eventually renamed the school Sense & Color, after a lyric from the Grateful Dead song "Terrapin Station."

As our student base grew through word-of-mouth, it became clear that we needed a larger space to accommodate everyone. In June 2012, we moved into our first commercial location in the heart of Cedar Park. However, when COVID-19 hit in 2020, we were forced to adapt, offering lessons via Zoom to keep the music going. Eventually, we decided to leave our Cedar Park location and find a new space that better suited our needs.

In 2021, we found and purchased our beautiful new forever home in the Parkside Commons complex on S. Bagdad Rd in Leander, Texas, just a few minutes from Cedar Park and Leander High School in one direction, and Liberty Hill in the other. We said goodbye to city life and hello to the hill country, and we couldn't be happier with our new location.

Our Services

At Sense & Color School of Music, we're more than just a music school. We're a community of musicians dedicated to helping our students learn, grow, and enjoy making music. We offer a variety of services, including:

• Private Music Lessons: One-on-one lessons with talented instructors who are passionate about teaching and sharing their love of music. Our instructors are experienced and friendly, and they really get to know each student to tailor lessons to their needs and interests.
• Rock Bands: Our year-round band program is designed to get students making friends and performing with a full band on a professional stage in no time. This program is perfect for students who want to learn how to play in a band setting and gain valuable performance experience.
• Recitals: We offer regular recitals for our students to showcase their talents and hard work. These events are a great way for students to gain performance experience and build confidence in their abilities.
• Summer Camp: During the summer months, we offer a variety of music camps designed to provide students with a fun and engaging way to learn new skills and make new friends. Our camps cover a range of topics, from learning specific instruments to exploring different genres of music.
