Empowering Young Minds for a Brighter Future
At Kids on the Hill Preschool, we are dedicated to creating a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment for young children. Our primary goal is to prepare children socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively for a successful transition to Kindergarten and beyond. We believe in fostering a love for learning through play, hands-on experiences, and positive reinforcement.
Our Philosophy
Our educational philosophy is rooted in the works of various early childhood education pioneers, such as Jean Piaget, Dr. Maria Montessori, Rudolph Steiner, and Erik Erikson. Our curriculum combines the best ideas from these theorists and philosophies to create an engaging and well-rounded learning experience for each child. We believe in the importance of self-development, social interactions, nature, and simplicity in the learning environment. Our program focuses on building self-esteem, fostering a sense of community, and preparing children for success in formal schooling.
We prioritize staying current with recent findings and best practices in our field, including brain development, literacy, language acquisition, and numeracy learning. Our dedicated teachers incorporate these innovative ideas into our curriculum, providing a strong foundation for our students' continued growth and development.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to foster individual growth by incorporating interconnected activities that support each child's developmental milestones. We focus on various areas of learning, including:
- Large Motor Skills: Balancing, throwing and catching balls, riding bikes, climbing, skipping, and movement for body awareness
- Small Motor Skills: Use of manipulative items, puzzles, cutting, gluing, drawing, sewing, play dough
- Language Arts: Children's literature, puppet shows, storytelling, children's own stories, creative dramatics, vocabulary enhancement, listening and speaking
- Art: Exploring a wide variety of creative mediums, including paint, collage, clay, textures, and 3-dimensional projects
- Music: Songs, finger play, instruments, and exposure to various music forms
- Cognitive Development: Concepts of learning, such as sequencing, classification, comprehension, use of prediction, and thinking skills
- Science: Hands-on experimentation with natural and physical sciences, care of the environment, and gardening
- Life Skills: Sharing, cooperation, manners, following directions, self-help, and resolving social conflicts
Our curriculum projects may be based on seasonal life, chosen subjects, holidays, stories, children's literature, or the children's own emerging interests. Each teacher plans and implements the curriculum for their specific class and individual children, ensuring a tailored and engaging learning experience.
Daily Routine
Our daily routine allows for generous periods of time, both indoors and outdoors, for children to choose, plan, and play using their own powers of discovery. Each day is thoughtfully balanced to offer a mix of structured and unstructured activities, promoting social interactions, skill-building, and creative exploration.
