Exploring the world, one sip at a time
Welcome to Gypsy Canyon, a tiny historic vineyard located in the heart of Santa Barbara County's Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Our story began in 1887 with the planting of Mission vines, and our journey has been shaped by the dedication of our winemaker, Deborah Hall.
Our History
Gypsy Canyon was established in 1887, and for nearly a century, the vineyard remained hidden under sage brush, forgotten by time. In 1996, we embarked on a five-year journey to restore the vineyard to its former glory. In honor of the first woman winegrower in Santa Barbara County, we named the vineyard Marcelina's.
Our Winemaker
Deborah Hall is the founder and principal of Gypsy Canyon. She is a recognized expert in viticulture and enology, having studied at the University of California, Davis. With a passion for growing and making wine, Deborah has been tending the vines and working intimately with Pinot Noir and Mission grapes since 1999.
Our Philosophy
At Gypsy Canyon, we believe that a vine grown in a healthy environment will reach its highest potential. By allowing the purest expression of the vineyard site and varietal, we create wines that capture the essence of the grape. Our goal is to craft wines that nourish our hearts and minds, just like the intoxicating fragrance and flavors of the berries.
Our Wines
We produce a limited selection of wines, each showcasing the unique characteristics of our vineyard. Our portfolio includes:
- The Collector's Pinot Noir: A Pinot Noir crafted from two clones, 777 and 115, with flavors of cherry, raspberry, and hints of spice.
- Bien Nacido Chardonnay: A Chardonnay showcasing the elegant and subtle flavors of white peach, green apple, and cream.
- The Moment Pinot Noir: A Pinot Noir with flavors of strawberry, raspberry, and orange zest, perfect for special occasions.
- Ground Boots Pinot Noir: A Pinot Noir with earthy flavors of mushroom, forest floor, and hints of vanilla.
- Ancient Vine Angelica: A fortified dessert wine made from 18th-century winemaking notes of the Mission Padres.
Our Commitment
At Gypsy Canyon, we are committed to crafting wines that capture the essence of our vineyard. We tend our vines with care, using sustainable practices to ensure the health and well-being of the land and its inhabitants. Our wines are allocated to members of our mailing list, ensuring that each bottle is a reflection of the beauty and magic of our vineyard.
