Empowering Young Minds, One Step at a Time
Westminster Nursery School is a non-profit organization established in 1971 under the auspices of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Our philosophy is centered around providing a caring and loving environment for preschoolers from our community. We believe in implementing developmentally appropriate practices to ensure social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual growth in young children. Our staff, led by Director Lucia Hassen, strive to give each child a positive "first experience" with school.
Our facilities are designed to promote learning and exploration. Classes meet in attractive sunny rooms equipped with learning centers including a book nook, writing table, paint easel, art table, and carpeted block and floor play area. We also have an ever-expanding library of children's books, an outdoor playground, and an indoor playroom for inclement weather. These spaces encourage children to engage in various activities such as science experiments, art projects, and large motor play.
Throughout the year, we organize various activities and events that cater to different ages and interests. In September, we have a get-to-know-each-other period, followed by a field trip to a pumpkin/apple farm for the 4-year-olds in October. Science activities abound in October and November, and November and December focus on sharing and caring. The months of January and February bring units on space, the day/night sky, bears, and Valentine's Day. Springtime is marked by art shows, Mother's Day celebrations, and a march in the Memorial Day parade.
Westminster Nursery School welcomes children of all religious faiths and nationalities, encouraging them to share their varied cultures. Our goal is to provide a secure and comfortable environment where children can develop positive self-esteem and a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.
Class Offerings
We offer classes for 2-year-olds on Tuesday and Thursday, 3-year-olds on Tuesday and Thursday, and 4-year-olds on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Additionally, we have extended day enrichment programs for 3 and 4-year-olds, which include activities such as music, movement, science, and more. These programs are designed to add an extra layer of learning and exploration outside of the traditional classroom routine.
Extended Day Enrichment
Our extended day programs are designed to provide an additional three hours of enrichment activities for 3 and 4-year-olds. These programs include activities such as science experiments, art projects, and music and movement. Research has shown that these types of experiences are critical for early childhood development as the brain is developing rapidly.
