At Tuff Love Fitness, we believe that empowerment is the most powerful force that drives individuals to grow, learn, and thrive. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we have made it our mission to provide accessible and affordable self-defense, martial arts, and fitness training to individuals in Oakland and the surrounding San Francisco Bay Area.
Empowerment Through Martial Arts
Our journey began with a team of four female martial artists who were passionate about promoting martial arts for populations that may be underserved by many traditional martial arts programs. We recognized that women, the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities, and assault survivors often face unique barriers to accessing martial arts training. Our nonprofit was founded to address these barriers and provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals to learn and grow.
Our Programs
At Tuff Love Fitness, we operate three programs that align with our mission:
- Tuff Love Self-Defense: Our flagship program provides women with a comprehensive self-defense curriculum that empowers them to take control of their personal safety.
- Four Elements Fitness Gym: Our fitness program combines martial arts techniques with functional fitness training to promote overall wellness and fitness.
- Sweaty Betties: Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program provides a supportive community for women to learn and grow together.
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to teach self-defense, martial arts, and fitness in a manner that promotes personal wellness, community responsibility, and social justice. We believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality self-defense, martial arts, and fitness training, regardless of gender, sexuality, race/ethnicity, and income level. Our vision is to create a Bay Area where everyone has access to life-changing training and resources.
What We Do
At Tuff Love Fitness, we:
- Provide self-defense, martial arts, and fitness training to the public at reasonable rates
- Offer self-defense, martial arts, and fitness training at free or discounted rates for vulnerable populations
- Organize and host events and tournaments in alignment with our mission
- Provide support (financial and otherwise) for valuable community causes
- Build solidarity with other communities and organizations to address common concerns
- Host exhibitions of art or other displays that accord with our mission
- Provide an affordable space for groups whose missions align with ours
