"Music brings peace, beauty and love" - Alice Herz Sommer
About Me
Music has always been a profound force in my life, a source of joy, solace, and inspiration. This passion has led me to dedicate my career to sharing the transformative power of music with others through teaching. I believe that everyone has the potential to make music, regardless of their age or background. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a welcoming and supportive environment where students can explore their musical interests, develop their skills, and most importantly, have fun. I strive to tailor each lesson to the individual needs and aspirations of my students, ensuring their learning journey is both fulfilling and enriching.
What I Teach
I offer comprehensive instruction in both saxophone and piano, encompassing a wide range of musical styles. From the soulful melodies of jazz to the intricate harmonies of classical music, I encourage my students to discover the vast musical landscape and find the genres that resonate with their hearts.
My lessons go beyond simply learning notes and scales. I emphasize the importance of developing a strong musical foundation, which includes music theory, ear training, and improvisation. By understanding the underlying principles of music, students can unlock a deeper level of musical expression and creativity.
Whether you dream of performing on stage, playing for your loved ones, or simply enjoying the personal satisfaction of making music, I will guide you every step of the way.
What a Lesson Might Be Like
When you first begin lessons with me, I'll take the time to get to know you and understand your musical goals. I want to know what inspires you, what you'd like to achieve, and what level of experience you have.
I believe in creating a personalized learning experience. Based on your aspirations, I'll design a curriculum that suits your needs.
A typical lesson might include a warm-up focusing on technique and music theory fundamentals. Then, we'll dive into learning new songs or exploring improvisation, tailored to your chosen genre and skill level. I frequently create my own teaching materials and utilize a variety of resources to ensure engaging and effective learning.
I also believe that listening is crucial to musical development. We'll listen to recordings of the music you're learning, analyzing performances and developing your ear.
The pace and frequency of your lessons are completely flexible and tailored to your individual schedule and learning style. My commitment is to create a fun and supportive environment where you can flourish musically.
Piano Lessons
The piano offers a unique learning experience. Its visual layout allows you to see the relationship between notes and keys, making it easier to grasp musical concepts. Whether you prefer the classic feel of an acoustic piano or the convenience of a keyboard, you have choices that suit your lifestyle and preferences.
Starting with the "geography" of the piano, I'll guide you through finding your way around the keys and developing finger dexterity. We'll explore chords and their applications in different musical contexts, particularly focusing on accompaniment and improvisation.
Reading music is an invaluable skill, but with piano, you can also learn by ear and develop your aural skills.
Saxophone Lessons
Contrary to popular belief, learning the saxophone isn't overly complicated. While it may appear daunting at first glance, the saxophone is a remarkably expressive instrument that can be mastered with dedication and the right guidance.
My saxophone lessons emphasize the importance of proper embouchure and breath control. We'll explore the three parts of the saxophone and learn how to assemble it correctly. I'll show you how to finger notes and transition smoothly between them, developing your coordination and musical vocabulary.
Playing the saxophone is an incredibly rewarding experience, and I'm dedicated to helping you unlock its potential and discover the joy of making music.
