At First Step Counseling Services, we believe that everyone deserves access to comprehensive mental health and substance abuse treatment. Our team of dedicated clinicians has been providing high-quality services to individuals, families, and groups in Metuchen, NJ, and surrounding areas for over 20 years. Our Services

We offer individual, group, and family therapy sessions, as well as evaluations and treatment plans tailored to each client's unique needs. Our staff is trained in various treatment approaches, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and motivational interviewing, among others. We also provide group therapy sessions, which are frequently updated, so please contact our office for a current schedule and information.

In addition to our mental health services, First Step Counseling Services is also a Middlesex County IDRC (Intoxicated Driver Resource Center) approved treatment facility, providing treatment for individuals affected by substance abuse issues. We are proud to have been serving our community for over 15 years.

Our Clinicians

Our team of clinicians is dedicated to providing compassionate and confidential care to our clients. Our Director, Dr. Monica Sosnowitz, is a licensed therapist with over 25 years of experience in mental health and substance abuse treatment. She is trained in divorce mediation, is a Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Specialist, and a Certified Sentence Mitigation Specialist. Our team of therapists is diverse and experienced, and we are committed to finding the right therapist for each client.

Insurance and Fees

At First Step Counseling Services, we believe that mental health treatment should be accessible to everyone. We accept most major commercial insurance plans, as well as employer-sponsored EAP (Employee Assistance Program) benefits.
