Winzerwald Winery

Winzerwald Winery is a family-owned business that celebrates its German heritage by offering unique German-inspired wines, gifts, festivals, and educational tours. Located on 85 acres of rolling lands in the Hoosier National Forest, the winery is owned by Dan and Donna Adams. The couple has a deep passion for winemaking, with both holding certificates from Purdue University in viticulture and enology. Dan has previously worked at Wollersheim winery, the largest winery in Wisconsin, further solidifying the family's commitment to quality wine production.

The winery's name, Winzerwald, translates to "vintner of the forest" in German, reflecting the Adams' love for the natural surroundings and their dedication to producing wines that embody the spirit of the forest. With a focus on traditional German wine styles, Winzerwald offers a range of wines including Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Meunier, as well as unique styles like Mai Wein, Gluhwein, and Ice Wein. These wines are made from grapes typically grown in Germany and are crafted to honor the family's heritage.

Our Heritage

Winzerwald Winery's story begins with Dan's great, great grandfather, Jakob Loesch, a cooper who brought wine grapes to America in the 1800s. These grapes still grow in the deep, fertile Ohio River Valley soils and are used to produce a limited edition wine called Heirloom from a yet-to-be identified German mystery grape. This heritage is a testament to the family's long-standing connection to winemaking and their commitment to preserving traditional techniques.
