Discovery Lane

Discovery Lane is a Reggio Emilia inspired school located in Waldorf, Maryland. We serve preschool and elementary age children, and we are dedicated to preparing, educating, and nurturing life learners. Our school is an independent institution that was developed for families desiring a progressive approach to learning, one that encourages student interest and promotes a range of healthy living experiences.

Our Team

Our educational team is composed of experienced and passionate professionals who are committed to providing a learning environment that motivates students to investigate their environment and act as co-researchers. We are proud to introduce our co-owners and co-founders, Alice Lane and Shante Lane Tamerat.

Alice Lane, Head of School/Co-Founder, has been educating infants, toddlers, and school-age children since 1994. With over 20 years of early childhood experience and a host of early childhood education, Alice is excited to welcome this new venture as she opens an educational program with her daughter.

Shante Lane Tamerat, Head of Elementary School/Co-Founder, has been in education for 11 years. She holds a Bachelor's in Psychology, a Master's in Elementary/Special Education, and a PhD in Special Education/Education Leadership. Shante has extensive experience working with students in a special education setting and has taught in both Philadelphia and Washington, DC.

Rhainie Frazier, Director of Admissions, has always gravitated towards helping young ones and servicing families. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from Bowie State University and has several years of experience working for youth camps and as a behavioral therapist for children with special needs.

Blended Curriculum

We offer an individualized curriculum that is tailored specifically to students' needs and the development of their academic progress. Our blended curriculum combines the Reggio Emilia approach with a progressive co-collaborative hands-on learning experience for both students and teachers. We believe that a holistic approach to growing discoverers is essential, and we strive to care for not only the minds of children but their whole being.

Healthy Living

Healthy living is essential to proper growth, and we are committed to providing organic and healthy meals for our students. We believe that teaching students how to care for their bodies is just as important as teaching them how to care for their minds.

Eco-Friendly

At Discovery Lane, we show our students, by example, how caring for the environment is important to life and sustainability. We are committed to being an eco-friendly school and strive to incorporate environmentally friendly practices into our daily routines.
