Caring and Sharing Through Christ Our Lord Since 1972
Our History
Luther Manor's roots are firmly planted in faith, compassion, and a dedication to serving the elderly community. In 1967, Reverend Ralph A. Plautz, pastor of Saint John's Lutheran Church in Hannibal, Missouri, was deeply troubled by the substandard conditions in local nursing homes. Witnessing the needs of his congregation firsthand, he envisioned a place where seniors could receive compassionate care in a warm, home-like environment. Driven by this vision and spurred by a committee of dedicated individuals from Saint John's and five other Lutheran congregations in northeast Missouri, a non-profit organization known as the Luther Manor Association was formed.
Soon after, in 1969, the Luther Manor Association purchased a peaceful tract of land from Saint John's Lutheran Church in Hannibal, a site that would become the home for Luther Manor. A board of directors, representing the six founding congregations, was established to oversee this ambitious project. After years of planning and dedicated effort, the doors of Luther Manor opened on June 1, 1972. Since then, we have continued to uphold the founding principles of "Caring and Sharing, " providing the highest quality care with a focus on holistic well-being. Our commitment to treating residents with dignity, respect, and genuine care remains at the heart of everything we do.
