Our Story

University Florist in downtown Chapel Hill has been a family owned and operated business since 1946. Our collective passion for flowers and dedication to customer service has allowed us to flourish for generations. It all started with my father, Pop, who after graduating with a business degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, served his country in the U.S. Army. Upon returning, he married my mother and purchased University Florist, embarking on a journey that has become a core part of our family legacy.

From Rock Dreams to Blooming Visions

Growing up, the intoxicating scent of fresh flowers and the vibrant colors of blooming arrangements were a constant presence in my life. As a child, I spent my afternoons learning the art of floral design alongside my father. You could often find me sweeping the shop floor, eagerly absorbing the rhythm of the business. While my initial aspirations were far removed from the family flower shop, dreaming of becoming a rock and roll drummer, fate had a different melody in store.

Continuing the Tradition

After graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in Radio Broadcasting, I returned to Chapel Hill and dove headfirst into the world of University Florist. My father's entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering commitment to quality deeply inspired me. I absorbed his knowledge and passion, gradually transitioning from a curious child sweeping floors to a dedicated florist ready to carry the torch.
