We are delighted to celebrate over 55 years of creating Lancaster County Redware Pottery! Our journey began in 1962, and we are grateful for the unwavering support and patronage we have received over the past five decades. Foltz Pottery Shop has become more than just a business; it has become a family. We cherish the opportunity to reunite with our friends during our shop shows and share our pottery and, of course, our food with those who appreciate it the most. We hope that you have enjoyed these past 55 years as much as we have, and we look forward to seeing you for many more years to come.

About Ned and Foltz Pottery

Ned, the founder of Foltz Pottery, grew up in Lititz, Lancaster County, PA, and graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art with a degree in graphic art. Upon his return to Lititz, he began teaching art at Schuykill Valley High School at the tender age of twenty-one. During this time, he taught himself to make redware pottery. After eighteen years of teaching, Ned decided to pursue pottery as a full-time career.

In the early years, Ned dug his own clay and made tiles and small pieces, which he sold at the Ephrata Cloister shop. Over the years, Ned's style has evolved and expanded, and he now creates pottery using various techniques, including mold forming, casting, hand-turning, and sculpting. He has also developed several decorating styles, including slip decorating, slip trailing, cutwork, applied work, sgraffito, sponging, and stenciling.

Ned now attends between twenty and thirty shows a year, including some at his own shop and others at museums and craft shows in other states. His pottery is mentioned in the October 1998 issue of Country Living magazine as one of the next collectibles.
