Who We Are: Our Story

Coggins Funeral Home has been a trusted provider of funeral services to the communities of Upson and the surrounding counties since 1967. Founded by Mr. B. Fred Coggins, our funeral home has been committed to serving families with dignity, personalization, and thoughtfulness. Our current facility, which opened in 1981, offers state-of-the-art funeral services that cater to the unique needs and traditions of every family.

As a family serving families, we understand the importance of creating a meaningful tribute that honors the life of a loved one. We take great pride in providing a full line of funeral and cremation services, pre-planning services, and aftercare that help families take care of what truly matters: each other. Who We Are: Our Staff

Our staff members at Coggins Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors, who are committed to providing exceptional service and support.

• Fred Coggins: In Loving Memory - Fred Coggins was a native of Pike County, Georgia, but spent most of his adult life in Thomaston serving the needs of families here for over 50 years. Mr. Coggins served his country in the United States Army during WWII and graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tennessee. He returned to Georgia to begin his life's work of serving those in need with great care and compassion.
• Kenneth E. Coggins: Funeral Director/Embalmer-Former Owner - Kenny Coggins is the son of Fred and Virginia Avery Coggins and is a second-generation funeral director and embalmer. He graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1974 and has served the funeral services profession faithfully throughout his career. Kenny has served as President of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association and has served on the National Funeral Director's Association Political Action Committee. He currently serves on the NFDA Pursuit of Excellence Committee. Kenny is married to Janie Wall Coggins, and they are members of First United Methodist Church of Thomaston.
• Jason B. Thornhill: Funeral Director/Embalmer-Owner - Coggins Funeral Home is proud to announce that Jason B. Thornhill has joined our staff as a Funeral Director/Embalmer-Owner. Jason is a licensed funeral director and embalmer who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team. We are excited to have him as part of our staff and are confident that his dedication to excellence will serve our families well.
