Our Roots & History

SCC's journey began in the 19th century when Michael Cervino first established the firm. The company initially focused on projects for the Erie Railroad before incorporating as Sanitary Construction under the leadership of Michael's three sons. Over the years, the company successfully completed a wide range of water, sewer, drainage, and road projects, making it one of the most active and successful construction companies in Northern New Jersey.

Following World War II, Anthony and his wife Margaret took over the business, further enhancing its reputation for completing challenging work on time and within budget. Margaret's management skills and competitive bidding won over bankers, bonding agents, and clients alike, allowing the company to expand its market to include projects in South and Central New Jersey. Even as a woman in a male-dominated industry, Margaret proved to be a respected and admired business leader.

Today, the proud traditions of Sanitary Construction Company continue in the hands of Margaret's children and grandchildren. In recent years, the company has diversified by transitioning its focus to include site development capabilities, ready to handle the most challenging construction projects.
