Questions
What is the District Attorney's jurisdiction?
We cover seven counties across 11,432 square miles including Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Washington, Sedgwick, Yuma, and Kit Carson counties - the largest judicial district in the US by land area.
Do witnesses have to testify in front of defendants?
Yes, defendants have the right to hear all testimony against them. Defense attorneys may also ask witnesses questions after the prosecutor's examination.
Can victims influence plea bargains?
We consider victim input when crafting plea agreements. While most cases resolve through pleas, final decisions balance legal requirements, public safety, and case specifics.
How do I report a crime?
Contact local law enforcement where the crime occurred. For election fraud or urgent assistance, contact our office directly. Emergency situations require calling 911.
Can I get legal advice from the DA's office?
We cannot provide private legal advice. Our role is prosecuting criminal cases on behalf of the State of Colorado, not representing individual citizens in civil matters.
What if my question isn't answered here?
Contact our Sterling or Fort Morgan offices directly. Our staff will assist with case-specific information or connect you with appropriate resources.
