Our History
For over four generations, the Skalet family has been dedicated to creating exquisite, handmade jewelry that captures the essence of love, tradition, and family. Our story begins in the late 1800s when our founder, Ben Skalet, a skilled Russian goldsmith, arrived in New York City with a vision to build a legacy. With the help of his two sons, they toiled hard to establish a business designing and manufacturing fine jewelry. During World War II, the Skalet family's skills were redirected to create surgical equipment for the war effort, demonstrating their commitment to serving their community.
Family Traditions
Fast-forward to the late 1960s when John Skalet decided to pursue his dream of creating artistic jewelry and working closely with clients. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in the family's history. John and his wife, Barbara, opened Golden Treasures in Tahoe City, Lake Tahoe. Their store thrived, and John's unique designs earned recognition. In 1975, they expanded to Sacramento, growing their business to accommodate the growing customer base.
Fourth Generation and the Future
In 1982, Howard Skalet joined the family business after completing his comprehensive training at the Gemological Institute of America. Adam Skalet, with years of apprenticeship and training at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, added his creative talents to the family business. With the fourth generation active in the family business, we formally changed our name to Skalet Family Jewelers in 1983.
