Since its establishment in 1980, Portsmouth and Exeter Mental Health Associates have maintained a commitment to provide quality mental health services to meet the diverse needs of our community. Our multi-disciplinary team offers an array of psychotherapy individually designed to meet the needs of each client and his or her family. We are available for extended hours, including early morning, evening, and weekend. Our intake coordinators will answer any questions regarding the appropriateness of a referral, or can help you in seeking specific consultation.

Our Philosophy

The clinicians at Portsmouth and Exeter Mental Health Associates bring extensive experience and expertise to the practice of psychotherapy. Each therapist brings his or her unique training and orientation to their work and all are committed to an open-minded, non-judgmental stance in approaching problems presented by their clients. We are all trained to listen with curiosity, see with care, and support with understanding. In the course of treatment a trusting confidential relationship develops between therapist and the client that allows for a sympathetic exploration of deeply personal life issues. In psychotherapy the client is able to resolve internal conflicts, to improve his/her sense of self and capacity for relationships, to have hope, and to reach his or her potential. It is our belief that optimal growth takes place when we are able to achieve fulfillment and happiness without the burden of emotional constriction.
