Every day, in every way, I'm getting better, and better, and better.

At Yakima School of Karate, our mission is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals of all ages and skill levels to learn and grow through the study of martial arts. Our school is built around the principles of Shudokan Karate-Do, an Okinawan style of karate that emphasizes practical self-defense, sustainable lifelong training, and community building.

Our Journey

Our story began with Shihan Mike Franco, our founder and chief instructor, who started training in karate at the age of 8 under his father, Shihan John M. Franco Sr. Over the years, Shihan Mike has continued to refine his skills, training with some of the most renowned instructors in the world, including Hanshi Morris Mack, founder of the American Shudokan Association. With a passion for teaching and mentoring, Shihan Mike has dedicated his life to sharing the benefits of karate with others.

Our Services

At Yakima School of Karate, we offer a wide range of classes and programs designed to meet the needs of individuals from all walks of life. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the basics of karate or an experienced martial artist seeking to advance your skills, we have a class for you. Our classes include karate, aikido, batto-do (Japanese sword), and kickboxing, as well as specialized programs for children and adults.

Our Philosophy

At Yakima School of Karate, we believe that martial arts training is about more than just punching and kicking. It's about developing important life skills such as respect, kindness, patience, and perseverance. Our instructors are dedicated to creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students can grow and thrive, both on and off the mat.

Our Community

At Yakima School of Karate, we're proud to be part of a larger community of martial artists and practitioners who share our values and our passion for the art. We believe that martial arts training has the power to bring people together and foster a sense of belonging and connection. That's why we're committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all our students.
