Our tradition began with Joel Gruwell, who gathered knowledge and experience as a roofing contractor from projects ranging from single-story homes to high-rise office buildings, below-grade waterproofing, patios, dog houses, and even coconut palm frond roofing on treehouses in Hawaii. His sons, Matt and Erin, grew up around this sort of thing and developed their dad's love of roofing. They received priceless one-on-one training in roofing techniques that are fast disappearing. Many of today's roofers don't know how to lay a fine shake roof, but Joel Gruwell's sons do.

Erin and Matt also hold to practices others these days might call outdated: working hard and doing a job they can be proud of at the end of the day. They take a genuine interest in each and every roofing job they do, including each visit they make to give an estimate.
