Empowering young artists to thrive in a safe and empowering space
Introducing: Expressions School of the Arts! PSDA has been a fixture of our community for five years now and we are humbled by the growth we have seen during that time. From 40 students in 400 square feet to where we are today is truly a dream. To all of you who have made PSDA come a live and been a part of our dance family, we cannot thank you enough. We've decided it is time to expand our horizons and make an exciting change by transitioning to a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization: Expressions School of the Arts, under which Pagosa Springs Dance Academy will operate. PSDA has long operated similarly to a nonprofit as we prioritize people over profits. Our goal in creating Expressions is to better serve our dancers by expanding our scholarship programs, keeping dance affordable and accessible, and offering quality instruction in dance and other forms of art with the support of donors and grand funding. The core values of PSDA will live on as a safe and empowering space for young artists to thrive, but we are thrilled to create a new, more sustainable program providing dance and arts opportunities for our beloved community. We invite you to join us on this journey as we pursue artistic excellence and continue to serve this amazing dance family we have nurtured.
Our Team
Katrina Thomas- Executive Director Like many tiny ballerina-hopefuls, Katrina started ballet as a 3-year-old little girl. As a teen, she worked in a dance studio as an instructor and administrative assistant. After completing her bachelor's degrees in music and elementary education from Colorado Christian University, Katrina and her husband eagerly left the big city behind and settled in Pagosa in 2001. Since then, she has served the community in many teaching, performing, and administrative roles while simultaneously raising and homeschooling their four children. Katrina joined PSDA as a student and assistant in 2016. She has also served more than ten years on multiple local nonprofit boards. She is thrilled to be part of the launch of Expressions School of the Arts and the continuation of the PSDA legacy. Katrina also can be found teaching K-8 music for the Archuleta School District. To unwind, you'll find Katrina snuggled up with a good book or exploring the great outdoors with her family.
