Learn, Grow, and Thrive with Us!

At Le Sueur Nursery School, also affectionately known as "The Little Red Schoolhouse", we take pride in being a licensed early education program that has been serving children and their families for over seventy years. Our facility, including a fenced-in playground, is specially designed for early childhood education and is located at 812 South 6th Street in Le Sueur. Our mission is to provide whole child development, focusing on social, emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics, science, technology, social studies, and the arts. We strive to establish an environment that is nurturing and respectful, where each child can explore and learn through fun and lively activities.

Our History

Our school has a tradition of excellence, with an emphasis on academic and social preparation for kindergarten. We have a proven record of success, achieved with a balanced curriculum that includes a hands-on approach. We utilize purposeful learning in a child-centered environment, led by qualified teachers who provide quality care and education. Our school began in 1948 in a church basement and moved into a new facility in 1952, thanks to a grant from the David and Arthur Cosgrove Memorial Foundation. In 1999, our current school facility was built, and we continue to maintain a strong relationship with the Cosgrove Foundation to provide affordable preschool education to Le Sueur families and surrounding communities.

Our Staff

Our dedicated staff is led by Director and Lead Teacher, Denise Traxler, who has over 25 years of experience serving children and families at Le Sueur Nursery School. Denise is a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Waseca with an AAS Degree in Early Childhood Education (Preschool Emphasis). Our Assistant Teacher, Ginger Nesbit, is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and has worked with preschool-aged children for over 7 years. Together, our staff is committed to providing a nurturing and respectful environment that fosters whole child development.

Our Programs

We offer two programs for the 2024-2025 school year: Morning Class for 3's and 4's, and Afternoon Class for 4's and 5's. Our Morning Class meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and our Afternoon Class meets Monday through Friday from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Both programs are designed to provide a fun and engaging learning environment, with a focus on social, emotional, physical, language, cognitive, literacy, mathematics, science, technology, social studies, and the arts.
