Originally conceived in the 1930s as a private estate garden, the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden remained a hidden treasure for decades. Inspired by a love of Japanese design, landscape architect Kinzuchi Fujii meticulously crafted this hill-and-pond style stroll garden, featuring a majestic waterfall cascading down a 25-foot hill and a traditional Japanese teahouse.

Preserving a Cultural Treasure

Under the guidance of renowned landscape architect Dr. Takeo Uesugi, the garden was painstakingly restored from 2007 to 2013, ensuring its integrity and preserving its historical significance. Today, it stands as the only remaining garden designed by Fujii and the only intact example in the United States of a Japanese-style garden created before World War II.
