Transforming Lives, One Smile at a Time

At Ten Thousand Villages, we're dedicated to creating a more just and equitable world through our unique approach to fair trade. As a nonprofit organization, we're committed to paying fair wages to artisans in low-income communities, embracing sustainable practices, and reimagining heritage crafts and traditional skills from around the world.

Our Story

Our journey began in 1946, when Edna Ruth Byler, a pioneering businesswoman, started selling handmade textiles from Puerto Rico at a church bazaar in Pennsylvania. Her vision was to create a marketplace where artisans from low-income communities could sell their wares, earn a fair income, and improve their quality of life. Today, we're proud to continue Edna's legacy, partnering with over 100 artisan groups in more than 30 countries to bring you a curated selection of handmade, sweatshop-free products.

Our Services

At Ten Thousand Villages, we offer a wide range of services to make your shopping experience convenient and enjoyable. Our online store features a curated selection of handmade products, including jewelry, home decor, kitchenware, and gifts for all occasions. We also have a network of physical stores across the United States, where you can browse and purchase our products in person. Additionally, we offer wholesale services for businesses and institutions looking to source fair trade products.

Our Commitment

As a nonprofit organization, we're committed to using our business as a force for good. We believe that fair trade practices can help alleviate poverty, promote social justice, and preserve cultural heritage. Our products are sourced from artisans who are paid a fair wage, ensuring that they can provide for their families and communities. We're also dedicated to reducing our environmental impact by embracing sustainable practices, upcycling, and recycling materials whenever possible.

Our Community

At Ten Thousand Villages, we're proud to be part of a global community that shares our values and commitment to fair trade. Our customers, artisans, and partners are the heart of our organization, and we're grateful for their support and loyalty. Join us in our mission to create a more just and equitable world, one purchase at a time.
