Inspiring a lifelong commitment to the arts
The William H. Van Every and Edward M. Smith Galleries at Davidson College play a pivotal role in fostering a rich cultural and artistic environment within the college community. Through a diverse range of contemporary art exhibitions and programs, we aim to nurture individual thinking, develop visual literacy, and inspire a lifelong commitment to the arts.
Exhibitions and Programs
Our galleries showcase a wide array of contemporary art, featuring works in all media from both established and emerging artists. Our exhibitions are designed to engage, inspire, and challenge our audience, while also providing opportunities for learning and growth. Alongside our exhibitions, we offer a variety of programs and events, including artist talks, workshops, and panel discussions, which further enrich the cultural landscape of Davidson College.
Permanent Art Collection
Davidson College is home to a comprehensive permanent art collection, comprising over 4,000 works of art that span more than five centuries. This collection provides students and members of the community with the opportunity to interact with and research a diverse range of artworks, both on campus and through loans to other regional, national, and international art institutions.
Campus Sculpture Program
The campus sculpture program at Davidson College is an integral part of our commitment to fostering a vibrant artistic environment. This program features a diverse range of sculptures and installations throughout the college campus, providing students, faculty, and visitors with a unique and engaging experience of contemporary art.
Staff and Advisory Committee
The Davidson College Art Galleries are led by Lia Rose Newman, Director/Curator, and Marisa J Pascucci, Gallery and Collection Coordinator. Our staff is dedicated to providing exceptional service and ensuring that our galleries remain a vital part of the Davidson College community. Additionally, we have an Art Collection Advisory Committee, which includes faculty, staff, and students who work together to advise on the acquisition, deaccession, and care of the college's permanent art collection.
