You are not alone, we are here to help!
The Postpartum Depression Illinois Alliance (PPD IL) is a dedicated volunteer-run organization committed to providing support, education, and advocacy for women experiencing pregnancy and postpartum mood disorders throughout Illinois.
We understand that the transition to motherhood can be incredibly challenging, both physically and emotionally. It is not uncommon for women to face a range of difficulties, from anxiety and sadness to more serious mood disorders like postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum anxiety. Recognizing the prevalence and impact of these conditions, PPD IL strives to create a safe and supportive space where women can find the help and understanding they need.
Our Mission
PPD IL's overarching mission is to combat the stigma surrounding maternal mental health and to foster a culture of awareness and compassion. We are driven by the belief that all new mothers deserve access to the information, resources, and support necessary to navigate the complexities of this transformative period in their lives.
Through our initiatives, we aim to:
- Promote Awareness: We actively educate the public, healthcare providers, and policymakers about the signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with pregnancy and postpartum mood disorders.
- Encourage Prevention: We empower women and their families with knowledge and tools to proactively manage their mental health during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
- Facilitate Treatment: We connect women with appropriate resources and support services, including therapy, medication management, and support groups, guiding them towards effective treatment options.
- Advocate for Change: We work tirelessly to promote legislation and policies that prioritize maternal mental health, ensuring women receive the necessary care and support they deserve.
How We Help
At PPD IL, we offer a lifeline of support to women in various ways:
- Mom-to-Mom Support: Our compassionate and trained volunteer network provides non-emergency support through phone calls and emails, offering a listening ear, empathetic guidance, and practical advice based on shared experiences.
- Information and Resources: We strive to be a comprehensive resource hub, providing evidence-based information about PMADs, symptom recognition, treatment options, and local support services.
- Community Building: We foster a sense of belonging and connection through online forums and support groups, empowering women to connect with others who understand their journey and share their experiences.
- Advocacy and Education: We actively engage with lawmakers, healthcare professionals, and community organizations to raise awareness, educate about PMADs, and advocate for policies that support maternal mental health.
