The Maine Dance Academy, a renowned institution for dance and tumbling education, was founded in 1994 by Colleen DuPlissie. With a vision to ignite a newfound respect and appreciation for dance in the community, Colleen began with 35 students in her first year. Today, the academy has grown to serve over 300 students, including a thriving Classical Pointe and tumbling school.

Colleen DuPlissie, the owner and lead choreographer of The Maine Dance Academy, inherited her love for dance from her mother. She further developed her skills and passion by competing with her brother, Jim, during their high school years. Colleen pursued her undergraduate degree in Chemistry/Medical Technology from the University of Maine, while simultaneously taking every dance class available to fulfill her minor. Her dedication and commitment to dance were further recognized when she earned several Outstanding Choreography awards for Maine State Show Choirs. Colleen has also choreographed numerous musical productions, including Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie Get Your Gun, Grease, Footloose, Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, and Calamity Jane.
