Our History

Zyloware was founded in 1923 by Joseph Shyer, who opened a manufacturing facility for eyewear in Long Island City, NY. Over the next few decades, the company grew and evolved under the leadership of the second generation of the Shyer family, including Henry and Robert Shyer.

In the 1960s, Zyloware introduced the first nylon frame, the Invincible, which went on to sell over 30 million units in the following 30 years. In the 1970s, the company made history again by creating the first American designer eyewear brand license with Gloria Vanderbilt.

The 1980s saw even more innovation from Zyloware, with the introduction of the first celebrity eyewear brand license, Sophia Loren, which remains one of the most successful women's brands in America. That same decade, the company also introduced Stetson Eyewear, which became one of the most successful men's brands in America and holds that position to this day.

In the 1990s, the third generation of the Shyer family, Chris and Jamie Shyer, took on active management roles at Zyloware. In the 2000s, Chris and Jamie Shyer took over the helm and oversaw the expansion of the company's fashion brands, as well as the launch of Zyloware's online presence with Zyloware.com. In 2010, the company moved its operations to a new state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly headquarters in Port Chester, NY.

Today, as we celebrate our 95th anniversary, Zyloware continues on a path of success and innovation. We are committed to continuing to bring exciting new brands, products, and exceptional commitment to our customers into the future.
