Our Story
Influenced by jazz, our hotel is a nostalgic nod to the past, where legends like Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald made their way to Akron, Ohio, bringing with them the soul and spirit of the genre. Our historic building, the United 1 Building, situated on the corner of Main & Market in downtown Akron, was originally built for the United Cigar Store Company in 1923. It was the place to be for enjoying a cigar, shopping, dining, and entertainment during the jazz era.
Our Services
Today, BLU-Tique Hotel Akron, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, offers historic mid-century architecture with a modern vibe that's harmonically linked through the language of jazz, rhythm, and blues. Our hotel features 1 Food & Spirits, a piano bar, intimate meeting spaces, and a fitness center. We also have BLU Social, a unique meeting venue for business meetings and social events, and BLU Jazz+ Nightclub, a speakeasy-inspired venue for live music and entertainment. Our rooms are charming and boutique-style, designed to evoke the tones of old school jazz.
The BLU Zone
The BLU Zone is our ensemble of independent venues harmonically linked through jazz, rhythm, and blues. It brings together BLU Jazz+ Nightclub, BLU Social, and BLU-Tique Hotel Akron, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, to form a triad of independent venues that celebrate the culture and history of jazz.
