Our History
Our journey began in 1913 when Carmelo Savarino immigrated to the United States from Sicily, Italy. He started a small grocery trucking business in Buffalo, New York, using the extra room in his truck to pick up and deliver goods for other businesses. As his business grew, his sons, Vincent and Joseph, joined him, and Carmelo Savarino & Sons Trucking was formed in 1948.
Our Growth
In the early days, we consisted of just two trucks, serving a 25-mile radius in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. We diversified our customer base and started handling major accounts such as General Motors, DuPont, and Sherwin-Williams Paints. As we expanded, we ventured beyond Buffalo to Rochester, Jamestown, and Erie, Pennsylvania. In the 1980s, we diversified our operations and expanded into New England, the East Coast, and the Carolinas.
Our Global Reach
As the global economy grew, so did our reach. We entered the airfreight business in 2000 and soon after, we solidified our international business by acquiring G&W International Freight Forwarding. This acquisition marked the beginning of our transformation into Speed Global Services (SGS), a leading provider of international freight forwarding and logistics solutions.
